UFC commentators Dominick Cruz and Joe Rogan were disgusted to spot a judge not even watching a fight as he officiated on the undercard of UFC 247.
Judges’ scorecards overshadowed the fight night in Texas, with the main event attracting intense controversy following Jon Jones’ victory over Dominick Reyes. Rogan ripped into judge Joe Soliz over his scoring for the headline fight, but alarms bells at cage side were ringing early on.
While calling a fight Joe Rogan exposed a judge who was suppose to be closely following the bout.
Rogan said on the broadcast: ‘We’re looking at a judge who is literally not even watching the fight. This is insane.’ Cruz, a former UFC champion and fellow analyst, said: ‘They’re looking down at the floor. Insane.
‘It’s going to be tough for the fighters to figure out how to win a decision tonight.’ Rogan, audibly baffled, replied: ‘This is crazy, he’s still not watching the fight.’
Jones’ thrilling clash with Reyes was marred by the controversial scorecards after the UFC champion staged a late comeback.
Reyes dominated the opening two rounds, but Jones began to fight back in the championship rounds.
Rogan slammed the officiating of Jones vs Reyes, questioning how any judge could see it four rounds to one for the defending champion.
He said: ‘That’s the same guy who gave Andre Ewell the fight earlier in the night against Jonathan Martinez, which is ridiculous. That was another fight that made no sense to any of us. It makes me angry. We’ve talked about it so many times. It’s less of an issue in some commissions where they’ve had more experience in combat sports. ‘But I can’t argue about this enough, I can’t get angry enough. For anyone to think it was 4-1 Jon Jones, that person is insane. That person is insane. Dominick Reyes put on a hell of a fight tonight and to disrespect that performance with that kind of judging is insane.’
