Khamzat Chimaev could not have asked for a better start to his UFC career. The undefeated fighter made his debut on fight Island and stole the show. His near-perfect performances, along with his willingness to fight, often has put him in the good books of Dana White and the fans alike.
In just four months with the promotion, ‘Borz’ has gone from a newcomer to one of the biggest names in the sport, setting multiple records on his way to stardom. He holds the record for the fastest turnaround win, and the least time taken to get to three victories in the UFC. His stellar run of three fights and his upcoming main event showdown has given ‘Borz’ a rank in the top 15.
Khamzat Chimaev creeps into the top 15 at 170 pounds at #15
Khamzat Chimaev is 3-0 in the UFC and is set to headline his first-ever main event, in December against Leon Edwards. ‘Borz’ will take on the #3 ranked welterweight fighter in the world.
The fight will be a litmus test to see how Chimaev fares against top-quality opposition and if he backs all the hype he has been garnering. Khamzat has made it into the top 15 of the UFC’s welterweight rankings and comes in at number 15.
‘Borz’ being included means the likes of Nate Diaz and Rafael dos Anjos have missed out. Nate Diaz has been a tough person to deal with for the promotion. His last fight was for the ‘BMF’ belt against Jorge Masvidal, which he lost. The last time Nate Diaz won was at UFC 241 against Anthony Pettis.
Rafael dos Anjos on the other hand has moved back down to lightweight and is no longer a part of the 170-pound division.
Khamzat Chimaev will be hoping to round out a stellar year with a win over Leon Edwards. A win against ‘Rocky’ will propel him further up the ranks at welterweight.
How do you think Khamzat Chimaev will fare against a top welterweight like Leon Edwards? If he is able to get past ‘Rocky’ should he fight for the title next?
