The UFC will kick off the new year with a PPV card like no other. The biggest name in combat sports, Conor McGregor, will return to take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257. The rematch has been seven years in the making and will see the two men fight at a different weight class from their first encounter.
‘The Notorious’ fought in January 2020 when he took on ‘Cowboy’. The Irish superstar vowed to be more active during the year and fight multiple times. However, the pandemic along with other factors played spoilsport, and the Irishman walked away from active competition for the third time in his career.
Can Dustin Poirier exact revenge on Conor McGregor?
‘The Diamond’ took to Twitter to post a video. Poirier said, “Yo, hope you’re having a great Sunday. Who that? Drew Brees is back. Just finished up a Sunday run. Want to give a shout out to vanquish, shout out to everybody on the team for the support this training camp. Five weeks out, victory awaits let’s go.”
Since his move up to 155-pounds, Poirier has established himself as one of the finest fighters in the division. Though he did come up short against Khabib Nurmagomedov, he bounced back immediately with a win over Dan Hooker.
A lot has changed since the last time the two men faced each other. ‘The Notorious’ and ‘The Diamond’ have grown leaps and bounds in all aspects of life and fighting. One thing that has stayed the same seven years on is both men are still two of the best in their division.
There is a lot on the line for both men in this fight that has massive title implications. The winner will most likely face Khabib Nurmagomedov next should he choose to return to defend his belt one last time in a bid to make it 30-0.
Do you think Dustin exacts revenge in the rematch? Can he cause arguably one of the biggest upsets in the UFC?
