“You Want to Fly?” – Khamzat Chimaev Taunts Israel Adesanya on Social Media

Khamzat Chimaev may not be ranked in the UFC just yet, but that does not stop him from calling out champions. The Swedish star has made a big impact in the promotion since making his debut earlier this year.

‘Borz’ has bounced between welterweight and middleweight during his short time in the UFC. Khamzat is currently scheduled to face Leon Edwards. That however did not stop Chimaev from calling out the middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.

He tweeted, “You want to fly? (Israel Adesanya).”

The video was of a fight Khamzat had in his previous promotion, Brave CF. It showcased his impressive wrestling game. ‘Borz’ displayed an impressive level change to pick his opponent upon his shoulders. Subsequently, he ran to his corner and slammed his opponent to the ground.

While fighting lesser-known unranked fighters is fine, challenging a world champion at the level of Adesanya is a whole different game.

Khamzat Chimaev’s impressive UFC start

Khamzat has already had three fights in the promotion. While the number of fights is impressive, the manner in which he has dominated can be equally impressive.

The Swedish-born fighter arrived at the UFC with a 6-0 professional record. ‘Borz’ continued that momentum and has nine professional wins as of now.

Another stunning statistic is that Chimaev has never gone to a judge’s decision in his entire career. Moreover, he has never seen the third round either with all his finishes coming in rounds one and two.

With a spectacular finish rate, it’s not difficult to see why Khamzat’s stock has risen so much. He is also currently one of UFC President Dana White’s favorite fighters.

Khamzat Chimaev will face his tough challenge yet

Currently ‘Borz’ is not even ranked in the UFC’s welterweight and middleweight division. This could all change by the end of the year with Khamzat set to face his toughest challenge yet against #3 ranked Leon Edwards on December 19. ‘Rocky’ who last fought back in July 2019, will be looking to remind the fans of his ability.

While Khamzat’s performances are fresh in people’s memories, Edwards himself was on a hot streak before his hiatus. ‘Rocky’ is on an eight-fight win streak. His last loss came against current champion Kamaru Usman.

Khamzat Chimaev has been impressive during his UFC career so far. Can he maintain it and earn the right to fight Israel Adesanya?
